Wild Yam Balancing Blend
Wild Yam Balancing Blend
When it comes to supporting the body’s natural rhythm, nature offers some of the most comforting allies. For generations, women have had to look outside of mainstream care to find support for period pain, perimenopause, mood changes, and all the small shifts that come with being cyclical. Women’s health has often been overlooked and under researched, which is one of the reasons I began studying herbs and making my own remedies. I wanted to understand how to help my own body first, and then share that knowledge with other women who wanted a more natural and nourishing way.
This herbal oil is one of those creations. It is simple, and it is made from plants that have a long history of being used to support women through hormonal changes.
If making your own isn’t calling to you right now, I also offer my handcrafted Wild Yam Balance Blend in the shop, created with the same herbs and intention.
Why I Chose These Herbs
Our hormones move in natural cycles whether we are still menstruating, in perimenopause, or fully post-menopausal. Sometimes those rhythms feel out of sync, which can leave us tired, tense, emotional, or not quite ourselves.
The Wild Yam Balance Blend combines four herbs that are traditionally used to support women’s wellness:
- Organic Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa) valued for its plant compounds and for its long traditional use for comfort during hormonal shifts.
- Organic Chaste Tree Berry (Vitex agnus castus) often used to support the body’s own hormonal rhythm through gentle communication with the endocrine system.
- Organic Raspberry Leaf (Rubus idaeus) a classic uterine tonic that supports strength and steadiness in the reproductive system.
- Organic Cramp Bark (Viburnum opulus) traditionally used to ease muscular and uterine tension.
Together they create a soothing oil that can be part of a self care routine that helps the body return to its own natural flow.
Wild yam has been trusted for generations to bring comfort and balance during hormonal changes. Many women find that it helps the body find its natural rhythm again, especially when it is used with consistency and intention. The plants seem to know how to support us, and our bodies know how to respond.
How to Make the Wild Yam Balance Blend
You will need:
- Equal parts dried wild yam root, chaste tree berries, raspberry leaf, and cramp bark
- A carrier oil such as organic jojoba, sweet almond, or fractionated coconut oil
- A clean, dry glass jar with a lid
Heat infusion method
- Add the herbs to your jar, filling it about halfway.
- Pour in your carrier oil to completely cover the herbs.
- Place the jar in a warm water bath (double boiler style) and gently heat between 95°F and 120°F (35°C to 49°C) for 4 to 6 hours. Do not go over 125°F (52°C) to protect the herbal constituents.
- Stir occasionally, then let the jar rest and cool overnight.
- Strain through cheesecloth the next day and pour into a dark glass bottle. Store away from light and heat.
Once your oil is strained and cooled, blend in castor oil at about 1 part to 6–9 parts herbal infusion (roughly 10–15 %). The castor oil enhances absorption and helps carry the herbal compounds deeper into the tissues. Mix well, then pour into an amber glass roller bottle for easy daily application and travel-friendly use.
How to Use the Wild Yam Balance Blend
Apply a small amount to the soft fleshy areas of the body, twice daily. Rotate the area of application daily, for example if you apply to inner thighs one day, the next day apply to inner arms, the next day, abdomen and so on and so forth. Massage gently and breathe slowly as you apply. Slowing down tells the body it is safe to balance.
Use pattern:
- Use for three weeks on and one week off.
- If you are menstruating, skip use during your menstrual week.
- If you are post menopausal, omit one week every fourth week to keep a gentle cyclical rhythm in the body.
This rhythm allows the body to rest and keeps the formula supportive rather than overstimulating.
Storage
Keep your Wild Yam Balance Blend in a cool, dark place. Shelf life is usually 6 to 12 months, depending on the carrier oil you chose and how well it is stored.
Why I Lean on Herbal Wisdom
For too long, we’ve been taught to look outside ourselves for healing. To hand our power to systems that often overlook or misunderstand women entirely. Yet the body holds ancient wisdom. It knows how to heal when we give it what it truly needs: nourishment, rest, and the medicine that grows from the earth itself.
Plants are not “alternative.” They are the original medicine. The ones our ancestors reached for long before modern laboratories existed. They remind us that healing is a relationship between nature and the body, not something handed down in a prescription.
When we choose to work with plants, we’re not rejecting modern care; we’re reclaiming sovereignty over our own wellness. We’re remembering what has always been true: that the body is intelligent, the plants are wise, and together they know the way back to balance.
